Hijab is a covering of the body for Muslim Women and Girls in Islam. Wearing of hijab is an injunction of Allah, aimed at protecting the vulnerability of Women in the society.
Islam without gainsaying is both a religion and a way of life. The hijab is a form of dressing that manifests and professes the practice of Islam.  FOMWAN is worried by the incessant denials of Muslim Women and Girls from wearing the hijab in some parts of the country.

It is in this regard that FOMWAN expresses great disappointment in the recent ruling by a Lagos High Court banning the use of hijab in public schools in Lagos State.
This ruling by the learned judge has already upset the entire Muslim community in Lagos state and elsewhere in the country as evidenced by the series of protest, agitations and press conferences by various Muslim groups in the state.

The Nigerian Constitution section 38(B) recognizes the fundamental right of the Muslim of religious adherence to manifest and practice their religion.
It is in recognition of this fundamental right that the Federal Government in its wisdom prescribed a dress code for the Muslim Girl in the unity Schools throughout the country. The Oyo and Ekiti States Governments have similarly, given approval for Muslim students in their public schools to don the hijab.
We are also aware that the female student nurses and female nurses in most Government hospitals are permitted to wear the hijab. This Policy has recently been approved by the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos State.

In view of all the forgoing, FOMWAN calls on the Lagos State Government to take another look into this matter as a matter of urgency in the interest of Peace and Harmony in the State
It is our hope and prayer that this matter would be amicably resolved.
